Is Vaping Better Than Smoking Weed?

Oh, my! How many ways are there to smoking weed? A lot, right? We’ve got edibles that come in every conceivable form — from fruit-forward tangy gummy bears to delectable brownies made of rich Belgian chocolate that are nothing short of pure epicurean delight. Then, of course, we’ve got ingestible oils, topicals, tinctures. And, the list goes on.

But typical oral ingestion of cannabis is slow, and can be unpredictable. Inhalation is still the most popular form of consumption. And, for many situations it’s better. But...to smoke or vape, that is the question.

There are pros and cons to both — some might say both methods are equally meritorious. Or, you may have a strong preference for one over the other. (Don’t be shy. Chime in on the comments section and let us know which you prefer — and, why?)

Nonetheless, here are seven reasons why vaping is pretty awesome — and, in fact, can often be a more compelling option than smoking.

Reason 1: It’s healthier for your lungs!

Sure, most of the studies trying to link cannabis smoking to lung cancer have been roundly debunked. However, smoking is still a lung irritant. We’ve all seen people cough uncontrollably after taking a rip from a bong or another device. And, smoking too much, too often, can lead to respiratory issues.

Comparably — while not 100% risk-free — vaping removes 95 percent of the smoke and carcinogens you’d ordinarily inhale from smoking.

Reason 2: It’s more efficient

While both smoking and vaping produce effects that start within seconds (peaking within 30 minutes), when you smoke cannabis, most of the THC is lost. In fact, only 20% of the THC is absorbed via smoke in the typical manner. The best vaporizers perform 25% more efficiently than smoking. Some argue that while this may be scientifically accurate, anecdotally most people report the high from smoking is more intense and lasts longer than vaping. But that may have more to do with the type of high it produces (see next reason).

Reason 3: Vaping produces a “better” high

Smoking tends to produce a heavier body high, while vaping produces a lighter head high.
Of course, this reason is totally subjective and based on personal preference. Nonetheless, if you’re trying to get things done and want to avoid “couch lock,” a powerful all-consuming body high makes this more difficult.

Reason 4: It’s (virtually) scentless and more discreet

No doubt, one of the biggest reasons vaping has become so popular is that it’s a lot more discreet than lighting up a joint or a pipe. It’s virtually scentless! You may not be totally immune from producing trace amounts of ganja smell, but you certainly won’t emit a potent, skunky cloud of smoke that is easily noticeable by onlookers passing by — and, it doesn’t cling to your clothes, breath or hair. Instead, vapes produce a subtly-smelling mist that quickly dissipates..

Reason 5: Avoid cotton mouth

Who hasn’t gotten a terrible case of cotton mouth? Well, one the great things about vaping is that because it’s essentially smokeless, your mouth won’t get nearly as dry. If you hate cotton-mouth, this may be reason enough to consider vaping.

Reason 6: Vaping provides unparalleled ease of use

Push a button on your USB-rechargeable vaporizer, and presto! You’re in business. Vaping is a little easier than gathering all your gear together — buds, pipe, lighter, etc. — and trying to load a bowl, or roll a joint, and light up when you’re on-the-go.

Reason 7: It tastes better

Again, this one is highly subjective. But, vaping cannasseurs claim it allows you to appreciate the finer flavor notes of your favorite flower. No doubt, many people will disagree. And, there’s something to be said about opening up your favorite sack of dank kush, and smelling that signature bouquet of skunky herb. But, there are some great concentrates out there that make vaping awfully compelling.

At the end of the day, smoking vs vaping, is about preference. And fortunately, you don’t have to choose sides. You can mix it up! That’s what makes it interesting, right? A little flower, a new concentrate, some tantalizing edibles. It’s all good fun. Do you have a preference or a favorite? Let us know what you like, and share in the comments below.
