If Winter brings rain, cold, and grey skies to the South Sound, it also brings the perfect antidote: holiday cheer! Tacoma goes big on Christmas, Hanukkah, and holiday fun in general. Here’s a rundown of some of our favorite holiday events in Tacoma. All of them, it should be said, could be notably enhanced with a dose of another kind of holiday cheer.

In addition, the larger South Sound region boasts other skating opportunities. Here’s a list of venues ranging from Bellevue to Renton and beyond.

The Men’s Chorus puts a soaring, soulful, and irreverent spin on beloved holiday numbers such as “Joy to the World” and, naturally, “Super Gay Christmas.”

Zoolights at Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium

Come the holiday season, the Pacific Northwest’s only combination zoo and aquarium is transformed by thousands of glittering, oddly captivating, tiny lights. It’s a treat for the eyes and a lovely way to enjoy this treasured local attraction.

Christmas Ships

The Christmas Ships are coming! The Christmas Ships are coming! Oh, come on, don’t tell us you don’t know what the Christmas Ships are! They’re the glittering and bedazzled Puget Sound cruisers that travel from port to port spreading holiday cheer. Check the cruise line’s calendar to find their holiday events in Tacoma this December. You’ll find on-board Santas, musical entertainment, and much much more!
When: November 24 - December 23

Sights (and Lights) of the Season

We love it when certain neighborhoods and commercial strips go all-out on Christmas lights, and nearby Spanaway Park hosts what’s billed as “the largest holiday drive-through display in the Northwest,” Fantasy Lights. Stay in the warmth of your car and be dazzled by the joy of seeming millions of mesmerizing, blinking tiny lights
When: November 23 - January 1
Where: Spanaway Park

Further afield, here are some regional light shows and events you might want to hit as well.
